What make’s it an absolute must see?

What’s up with all that hype?

I got to admit, the Series Cobra Kai was in my Netflix queue for months. It wasn’t until the season 2, and nothing else to watch that I decided to give it a go.

It got me… It got me good…

The series is based on the 80’s trilogy Karate Kid. When I saw the movie Karate Kid for the first time, I think I was less than 10 years old, the karate mania got me, and I wasn’t alone.

Back in the 80’s, this movie got so popular that there where Karate dojo’s popping out everywhere. You came out of the theater kicking and doing kata moves like your life depended on it.

It’s for that reason that I believe the new Netflix Series Cobra Kai is so popular, it greatly captured the nostalgia from the era.

From the motorcycles, to the snacks and music; everything resembled the time when I (and every elderly millennial…) was a kid growing in the 80’s.

Now, the series is not only snacks and music from the 80’s, it’s also the rivalry and action that resembled the era. A lot of high school kids defending themselves with their bare hands (no guns) agains bullies or the other dojos.

This also brings back the reality of what it takes to go to violent school. I know many are shielded from having to defend yourself on a school setting. Where one day you were having fun, and the next day you had to fight.

That brings the hard reality of being a teenager.

I know Spiderman is a teenager dealing with a lot, but in real life, there is no magical spider to grant you super powers.

Themes like discipline and mentorship are repeated over and over in this series. It’s absolutely refreshing to see the reality of the teenage life and an avenue on how to cope with real problems. For for that reason, karate, and these series, could be the answer some are looking for…
